Andrew has interests in chronic medical conditions such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes. He continues to care for patients at Donvale Rehabilitation Hospital.
Andrew graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1985 and worked several hospitals before entering GP training. He commenced working in General Practice in 1990 and joined this practice in 1996. He continues to be involved in Medical Education with Registrars and Medical Students hosted at our practice.
Andrew loves seeing families across two or three generations and believes in the importance of people having a strong relationship with their doctor. In his spare time he enjoys caravanning, travelling and connecting with friends and family. After a serious illness in 2025, he has reduced his hours and is not taking any new patients.
Fees charged by Dr Andrew McDonald
Dr McDonald’s fees are guided by the AMA recommended rates. Aged Pensioners will be bulk billed. Other concession and Health Care Card holders will be charged a substantially discounted fee.
Patients who hold a DVA card are billed according to DVA Guidelines (see https://www.dva.gov.au/access-benefits/veteran-card). Visits by Gold card holders are almost always billed to DVA, while visits by White card holders can only be billed to DVA for eligible conditions.

Telehealth: consultations are charged at the same rate as face-to-face appointments (see fees above).
Missed Appointment fee: Dr McDonald may charge a fee if you miss your appointment, and do not cancel with at least four hours’ notice.

Travel consults
Travel to Africa and South America is booked as 30 minutes, while other destinations are booked as 15 minute appointments. This appointment must be booked through reception as a booking with the nurse is also required .All travel consultations attract the standard out of pocket GAP amount. Appointments (after Medicare rebates) are shown in the table above.
