Apart from family medicine, Don has special interests in dermatology, particularly skin checks and lesion removals, weight management, preventive medicine, mental health, children’s health, and all aspects of musculoskeletal complaints.
After graduating from Monash university in 2009, Dr Don received extensive hospital training in all fields of medicine especially in Emergency medicine and General surgery. He finished his training in general practise in 2021 with high distinction.
Other than Verve, Dr Don works as a GP specialist in Emergency department at Maroondah hospital; he also has special interest in Bariatric medicine and practises as a Bariatric medical practitioner and involves extensively in weight loss surgery.
Dr Don lives locally with his young family and loves exploring around regional Victoria in his caravan especially the various wineries regions
Fees charged by Dr Don Zhang
Dr Zhang’s fees are guided by the AMA recommended rates. Aged Pensioners will be bulk billed. Other concession and Health Care Card holders will be charged a substantially discounted fee.
Patients who hold a DVA card are billed according to DVA Guidelines (see https://www.dva.gov.au/access-benefits/veteran-card). Visits by Gold card holders are almost always billed to DVA, while visits by White card holders can only be billed to DVA for eligible conditions.

Telehealth: consultations are charged at the same rate as face-to-face appointments (see fees above).
Missed Appointment fee: Dr Zhang may charge a fee if you miss your appointment, and do not cancel with at least four hours’ notice.

Full payment is charged at the time of the visit, leaving the following out-of-pocket GAP after Medicare reimbursement of the relevant item numbers.

Weight Management
1 hour for initial appointment, subsequent appointments are 30 minutes. The out of pocket gaps for Initial Weight Management appointments (after Medicare rebates) are shown in the table above. Follow up weight management appointments should be booked as Standard Appointments and will attract a standard consultation fee.
Skin Checks
For checking a skin spot a 15 minute consultation is required, 30 minutes for a whole body check. Standard consult fees apply. Aged pensioners will be bulk billed. Fees for procedures and excisions will be dependant on complexity and will be discussed if required.
Iron Infusion
An Initial 15 minute appointment would be required to organise the iron infusion. Once completed an hour appointment is required to be booked with the nurse through reception.
Travel consults
Travel appointments require a 15 minute consultation. This appointment must be booked through reception as a booking with the nurse is also required All travel consultations attract the standard out of pocket GAP amount. Appointments (after Medicare rebates) are shown in the table above.
